Hangout Event: Chongyun - Act I
Signs of Evil
As you approach the wharf of Liyue Harbor, an unusually-dressed young man comes up to you, asking after some really strange business...
The young thaumaturge Chongyun has obtained a great amount of (rather unreliable-sounding) information concerning evil spirits. He seems a little dejected when you point this out. As he uses a popsicle to suppress his pure-yang spirit, you both feel someone's gaze on you from the side.
Dalong leaves after having been given half the popsicles, feeling quite pleased. After this small interlude, you and Chongyun continue discussing evil spirits. Chongyun hopes to tap on your abundant experience as an adventurer to adjudge the truth or falsehood of information concerning evil spirits. To that end, you head to Wanwen Bookhouse together.
Dalong leaves after having been given all the popsicles, feeling most pleased. For Chongyun, these popsicles are essential to suppressing his pure-yang spirit, and so he must have some on his person at any given time. The two of you head to Wanmin Restaurant to restock.
Popsicles and Their Curious Uses
Chongyun:
Have you procured all the ingredients for the popsicles?
Popsicles and Their Curious Uses
Chongyun:
Have you procured all the ingredients for the popsicles?
Popsicles and Their Curious Uses
Chongyun:
Have you procured all the ingredients for the popsicles?
Chongyun's mind is still on that kid named Dalong even after you've made some more popsicles. The two of you head to Chihu Rock, intending to give the new popsicles to him as well.
For A Child's Smile
Chongyun:
Are all the ingredients ready?
For A Child's Smile
Little Le:
Aw, the popsicle man is a ghost now, too!
Little Le:
How did you know to look for me here...
Little Le:
You didn't peek, did you?
Little Le:
...Did the popsicle man tell you where to find me?
For A Child's Smile
Little Le:
Cold noodles! Cold noodles!
Dalong:
I've never tasted cold noodles, I can't wait to try some...
For A Child's Smile
Little Le:
Huh, you found me!? How did you know to look for me here...
Little Le:
Heyyyy — you didn't peek, did you?
For A Child's Smile
Dalong:
Ah, you found me!
Dalong:
I can't believe I lost! I didn't expect you to be so good at this.
For A Child's Smile
Chongyun:
I never expected you to find me so easily...
Traveler:
It's only your first time.
Traveler:
...Why would you hide here?
Chongyun:
I thought that this would be the perfect spot.
Chongyun:
In fact, I'm well-versed in the methods of locating evil spirits, and I have lots of experience tracking down their hiding spots.
Chongyun:
This spot is dusty and a bit gloomy, which gives off an unsettling energy. Evil spirits usually prefer such places.
Traveler:
You're trying to use thaumaturgy to play hide-and-seek...
Chongyun:
Yeah... I guess my experience as an exorcist doesn't apply very well.
Traveler:
But you can be easily seen here.
Chongyun:
Hmm... I guess I was so nervous that I neglected the most important thing.
Chongyun:
Since I've been found, I guess I must admit my defeat.
Chongyun:
It's a simple game, yet quite intriguing once you begin to play.
Traveler:
Maybe we could play it together again sometime.
Chongyun:
Sure, we could invite more friends to join us.
Traveler:
Good thing you weren't the ghost.
Chongyun:
Hehe, right. It might've taken me hours to find anyone.
Chongyun:
Let's go.
The young thaumaturge Chongyun has obtained a great amount of (rather unreliable-sounding) information concerning evil spirits, but you decide not to expose this fact out of courtesy. The way Chongyun sees it, the most likely spot for evil spirits to show up is Wuwang Hill, where a Test of Courage is currently taking place. The test requires two people to go in together, so you accept his invitation and accompany him there...
Test of Courage
Uncle Jia:
You two may enter now. Have fun!
Uncle Jia:
I hope this will strengthen your friendship, hehehe...
Test of Courage
Junjun:
If not "babe," then... how about "darling"?
Chan'er:
Hmph, don't you try to sweet talk me!
Test of Courage
Chongyun:
Please... just call my name if you run into any in danger.
Chongyun:
I'll be resting here... I must try to keep cool...
You and Chongyun successfully enter the Test of Courage, but as you track the evil spirits, Chongyun suddenly experiences a rush of unstable yang energy and must rest. To prevent his constitution from going out of control, you look for something that might help suppress his pure-yang spirit...
Sudden Discomfort
Chongyun:
Sorry for troubling you again...
Chongyun:
Just be careful while collecting the ingredients...
Sudden Discomfort
Fu San'er:
It's dangerous to walk alone here, isn't it?
Fu San'er:
You have no idea who... or what you'll meet.
Traveler:
...
Traveler:
Hello.
Fu San'er:
Hmm, you seem to be pretty calm. You know, there's a saying, "you can't keep your shoes dry if you keep walking along the river."
Fu San'er:
You're bound to run into something in such a strange and eerie place...
Fu San'er:
And what you encounter here could become a nightmare that haunts you for the rest of your life.
Traveler:
Oh, really?
Traveler:
Sorry, I don't get it... What are you doing here?
Fu San'er:
Huh? How are you so calm? People usually run away in terror before I can even finish a sentence.
Traveler:
You look like just another average person to me.
Fu San'er:
Yeah... but a more sophisticated way to play a ghost is to create a creepy atmosphere that scares people psychologically.
Fu San'er:
In which case, my appearance becomes irrelevant.
Traveler:
Don't you have a costume or anything like that?
Fu San'er:
Yes, I have one, but it's too hot to wear... and besides, a more sophisticated way to play a ghost is to create a creepy atmosphere that scares people psychologically.
Fu San'er:
In which case, my appearance becomes irrelevant.
Fu San'er:
*sigh* Besides, I'll never be able to scare someone like you who doesn't believe in ghosts to begin with.
Traveler:
Sounds like you're just slacking off to me...
Fu San'er:
Hey, that's not true! Oh, I'd better go find some wimps to scare now!
Fu San'er:
You should go back and find your partner. He might be terrified by now.
Chongyun's pure-yang spirit has finally been brought under control, but he is now aware that the strange goings-on during the Test of Courage are a result of human activity. However, neither of you is ready to give up yet, and at Chongyun's suggestion, you split up and continue to search for traces of the paranormal...
Independent Actions
Qianqian:
*sobbing* Huh...? Um...
Qianqian:
Um... Can... C—Can you help me...?
Traveler:
Help you?
Traveler:
Why me?
Qianqian:
Um, that exorcist... with that blue hair... is so scary!
Qianqian:
C—Can you lead him away from here? He makes me feel so frightened...
Traveler:
Are you being affected by his yang energy?
Traveler:
No wonder we haven't seen you all day.
Qianqian:
I wouldn't dare get anywhere near him... His energy... It's so horrible! It'll make me disappear!
Qianqian:
...I don't want to disappear! Please, help me...
Traveler:
I wonder if he'd consider you an evil spirit...
Traveler:
He'll have to be the one that decides what to do.
Qianqian:
...Well... I—I have an idea.
Qianqian:
Um... I—I saw the exorcist with blue hair a—arguing with someone over there a few minutes ago.
Qianqian:
I'll scare those troublemakers away, but y—you have to ask the exorcist to let me go, okay?
Traveler:
Are you telling the truth?
Qianqian:
O—Of course... Qianqian never lies.
Traveler:
I can get him out of trouble myself.
Qianqian:
...Yeah but... it'll be complicated. I've already got a plan, you must believe me!
Qianqian:
So, um... What do you say?
Traveler:
He'll be the one that decides, but I'll try to explain the situation as best I can.
Qianqian:
Um... Uh, okay... So, I'll take that as a "yes"?
Qianqian:
I hope the exorcist with blue hair is a good person.
Qianqian:
Um... So, I'll help him, and you'll go talk to him. Hopefully, then he'll leave me alone... Sound good?
You and Chongyun successfully enter the Test of Courage, and despite causing a misunderstanding, you also gain knowledge of evil spirits. The two of you proceed deeper, equal parts expectant and cautious.
Ever Deeper
Zhouliang:
Ugh... I'm beat. Finally, I can take a break.
Zhouliang:
*sigh* I wonder if I took things a little too far... A few people seemed scared out of their minds.
Traveler:
Who are you?
Zhouliang:
Huh? Hey, you shouldn't be here!
Zhouliang:
*sigh* Never mind. I assume you overheard me anyway.
Zhouliang:
I work here pretending to be a ghost, but now's my break time, so I took off my costume. I get all hot and stuffy wearing that thing...
Traveler:
So there are no real ghosts here?
Traveler:
It's all planned to scare people, right?
Zhouliang:
Of course, how could there be real ghosts here?
Zhouliang:
No one wants to see a real ghost, neither us nor the participants.
Zhouliang:
They just come here for the atmosphere, or should I say, the chance... Everyone wants the chance to feel the thrill of excitement.
Zhouliang:
When people find themselves in a scary situation, they'll say things that they'd never dare to otherwise. That's what the Test of Courage is all about.
Traveler:
I think I understand.
Traveler:
(Chongyun will be very disappointed.)
Zhouliang:
*sigh* Okay... I should get back to work now. Hope you and... whoever you're here with have a fun time.
You and Chongyun successfully enter the Test of Courage, but as you track the evil spirits, Chongyun suddenly experiences a rush of unstable yang energy and must rest. But it would be a shame to leave without having found any evil spirits. And so you forge on alone, leaving Chongyun behind to rest.

After a conversation with the Test of Courage staff, you discover that the spooky things happening there are all instigated by humans. While you expected as much, you imagine that Chongyun would be quite disappointed if you told him so...
